January 1, 2012 - Genesis 1-4

I am not sure exactly how many times I have read this section of scripture. Probably more than a dozen times and again something in it caught my eye that I had never noticed before. In the last verse of chapter 4 it states; "And then Seth had a son whom he named Enosh. That's when men and women began praying and worshiping in the name of God". It took to the third generation before people were worshiping and praying in the name of God.

I am really not sure there is any significance in this observation, however it did get me thinking. Did it take them to the third generation because it took that much time for Adam and his descendants to reconnect with God after what happened in the Garden of Eden? When people/families walk away from God, how many generations does it take before there is that reconnection for that family? I do not think there is a formula for this. I think it just happens. When someone or a family walks away from God, it takes until something or someone reintroduces them to the love of God before they reconnect.  The reconnecting part is between them and God, but as Christians, it is our job to provide opportunities for people to be reintroduce to the love of God.

How have you reintroduced people to the love of God? Maybe God is knocking on your heart about an opportunity that is before you, take a step of faith, you never know what God might do if you just say yes.

What are your thoughts? What out of these first four chapters in Genesis capture your attention? I look forward to reading your insights!
