The story of Joseph reminds me of something many of us try to portray. We try to portray that once you turn and follow God then you do not have troubles. Anyone find that to be true? Story after story in scriptures and in the world around us we hear of people who are right with God and they still go through hardships. It does not mean that God does not walk with us through those hardships. In fact that is exactly what we gain when we turn and follow God. God is always there walking with us, it is however once we turn and follow God that we are able to realize that in live into that knowledge.
Joseph went through hardships do not get me wrong he also received many blessings, but those hardships were what shaped Joseph into the person God wanted him to be, a leader. We are allowed to go through circumstances so that we can be shaped and molded and prepared for the next opportunity God brings into our lives. Our life with God is a journey that is full of mountains and valleys. God is there to help carry us up the mountain and lead us through the darkness of the valley. It is in those moments of our life that we come to value the mountain top where we can see the work God has been doing in us and through us. Egypt was part of Joseph's valley and mountain, but Joseph's mountain top experience was about to come...read tomorrow's scripture reading and you will see what I am talking about.
